Maria Morgan, JD, to Join Broadlawns Medical Center as Vice President of Human Resources and Chief DEI Officer December 13, 2023 December 13, 2023 – Broadlawns Medical Center (BMC) announced today that Maria Morgan, JD, has accepted the Vice President (VP) of Human Resources (HR) position and Chief Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Officer effective January 2, 2024. Maria has served as Interim VP of HR and Chief DEI Officer since July 2023. Maria’s top priorities will be standardizing and automating HR processes to create positive experiences for employees and their leaders throughout the employee lifecycle. Additionally, Maria will continue to increase recruiting and development pipelines for healthcare careers, focusing on social determinants of health and cultural competency in patient care to achieve health equity via high-quality health outcomes for the Des Moines community. “Broadlawns is fortunate to have secured such a talented leader to oversee our Human Resources and DEI team,” said Interim CEO and CMO, Dr. Jason Kruse. “I am excited to bring Maria Morgan on full-time at Broadlawns. I value her expertise and holistic approach to the inclusion and well-being of our patients and employees.” Maria has spent most of her career in civil rights, human resources counseling, and employment law. She has extensive experience developing and implementing programming and policy focused on fair employment practices, equity in compensation, and diversity and inclusion through her work with healthcare organizations, colleges and universities, and other organizations. Maria worked as Staff Counsel for Health Midwest, responsible for all aspects of employment law for a 13-hospital system. She has expertise guiding and leading organizational leadership teams in creating inclusive workplaces and guiding leadership with regard to employment matters in corporations, non-profit organizations, government, healthcare, and education. Maria has led organizations in transformational work through change management, policy review and development, process development, strategic planning, and programming.
