Aleicks Looney: ‘Every day I come to work I am happy to be here’

While her career is only beginning—currently working on becoming certified as a doula—Aleicks Looney, Health Care Tech, says she has already learned so much while working at Broadlawns.

Aleicks grew up with a mother who worked in the healthcare industry, so she always knew she wanted to end up doing something related to patient care.

She started at Broadlawns during the summer of 2019, working in the Emergency Department registration. It wasn’t until she gave birth to her son in January of 2021, that the world of birth really started to catch her attention. That August, she made the move to our Family Birthing Center where she currently works as a health care tech.

Aleicks emphasizes that providing encouragement is one of her most important objectives when caring for a new mother in the Birthing Center. “The most rewarding part of my job is the first time we get the mother out of bed after they have delivered their baby,” she says. “This time is so intimate and vulnerable for the patient. It is our job to reassure them that everything their body is going through is normal and natural. We are here to support them in any way they might need.”

Having a diverse patient population on the unit, Aleicks says, is just one reason she loves coming to work every day.

“Broadlawns has a vastly diverse patient population and I learn something new every day about different cultures from around the world, says Aleicks. “We are so honored to be able to serve our community and provide extra resources for those in need.” After Aleicks finishes her doula certification, she dreams of continuing to practice as a doula in the community and work with her clients at Broadlawns. “Every day I come to work I am happy to be here,” she says. “We have such a great team and I am surrounded by so many intelligent team members. I hope to continue to grow and blossom in my career and I am confident this is the place to do it.”
