Variety - The Children’s Charity Donates $37,584 to Enhance Broadlawns Variety – The Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic Press Release May 6, 2021 Des Moines, Iowa (May 6, 2021) – Variety – The Children’s Charity gifted $37,584 to the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation to support enhancements for the Broadlawns Variety – The Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic that attends to the healthcare needs of over 5,500 children from our community. Variety’s gift provided funding for equipment and furnishings for the pediatric clinic’s waiting area and eight exam rooms. The funding also allowed for the purchase of state-of-the-art vision and hearing screening equipment to provide early detection of deficiencies, as children are more responsive to treatment at an early age. “The respective missions of Broadlawns and Variety are very closely aligned as both of our organizations are dedicated to furthering access to healthcare for children who are vulnerable and in need of care,” said Katie Wengert, Broadlawns Medical Center’s Chief Marketing and External Relations Officer and Foundation Executive Director. “Variety has been a longstanding partner of Broadlawns Medical Center, and we are truly grateful for their ongoing generosity and support of our youngest patients.” The Broadlawns Variety – The Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic first opened in the Broadlawns Medical Office Building in June of 2011 thanks in large part to a lead gift of $860,000 that was provided by Variety – The Children’s Charity. Sixty-nine percent of Broadlawns’ pediatric patients utilize Medicaid or MCO coverage, and 9% are self-pay or charitable care.
